Holy ’57, the moniker of London-based artist Alex Mankoo, recently released a Broken Social Scene inspired indie rock jam titled “Canary.”
The song is a refreshing blend of light, upbeat and chill. It pulls together palm mute guitars, nostalgic Wurlitzer, and warm brass over a hip-hop inspired drum rhythm with a deep funk bass.
According to Alex, the song’s lyrics pay tribute to his grandmother’s courage while migrating from India to the UK. “I’ll be a Canary bird,” Alex Mankoo sings.
