Los Angles-based bedroom-pop group Top Bunk recently released their new single “Calm Me Down.”
The two-and-half minute tune features bright synthesizers, charming vocals and even a verse in Greek. In some respect, the song sounds like a buzzing blogosphere single from 2009. Picture acts like Generationals, STRFKR, Phantogram, or Ra Ra Riot from 10 years ago in the post-Strokes pre-Spotify music consumption era. That’s kind of what Top Bunk’s “Calm Me Down” alludes to.
Lyrically, “Calm Me Down” is about your friends picking you up when things aren’t right and you need them. It was also entirely produced and written by the group. Their organic approach to creation gives the track a DIY-sounding charismatic appeal with nostalgic and genuine qualities that seem to fill a void left by many of today’s contemporary playlist-era releases.
