In mid December a friend of mine who works as an audio engineer in Seattle told me he had a session with Skrillex and Chance The Rapper. What!? I thought what a cray combo and is this cataclysm of awesomeness possible and even true? Well, I waited for the song to surface and here it is – the Coast Is Clear. Skrillex and Chance The Rapper produced and recorded this song in one night at Studio X in Seattle, WA after Chance played Showbox SoDo. It’s a pretty killer track and really captures both artists in one song. Chance the Rapper has established himself as one of the hippest rapper in the US and rumor has it he is roommates with James Blake in LA.

Anyhow the track is pretty sweet. Has a very dubby drum and bass kit playing the in the background in classic Skrillex fashion.  The song is also somewhat downtempo and incorporates horns and keys in a borderline jazzy Chance The Rapper fashion. Lyrically, Chance’s hook borrows aspects of Notorious BIG’s Big Poppa and has super catchy vocal harmony towards the end of the track. I can dig. Enjoy
