Last week, James Bay released a new EP, Oh My Messy Mind.
As a whole, the 4-song EP is both dark and melodic. It’s a more acoustic approach to his already lyrically focused music. Many of the EP’s lyrics center around heartbreak and sadness which seems to be a theme.
A good example of this is James’ current single, “Bad.” The somber song starts with a moody guitar lick and James’ signature soulful pop vocal. As it develops, the listener is greeted with a rather sad chorus about a breakup and the angst of loneliness while wanting someone.
The single was produced by Dan Wilson (Adele) and quickly became a fan favorite this spring on James Bay’s US tour.
